Best Places for An Ice Cream in Shropshire

Best places for an ice-cream in Shropshire – suggestions from St Milburga Chapel, luxury holiday accommodation sleeping 4 in the Shropshire Hills.

Fancy an ice-cream? It’s certainly the weather for it, with the sun shining down on the beautiful Shropshire countryside at the moment. Everyone knows you can go to a shop and purchase an ice-cream but what about if you fancy something a bit different? What if you are on holiday in Shropshire and fancy treating yourself to a delicious ice-cream sundae? Or what if you want to buy some local, artisan ice-cream to take back to your self-catering accommodation to enjoy later?

Lauras Dairy

We have a couple of recommendations for local, artisan ice-creams. Firstly, Laura’s Delicious Dairy based in Cleedownton, a stone’s throw from St Milburga Chapel, uses milk from their own dairy cows to produce their delicious ice-cream. You can stay old school with flavours such as Vanilla and Mint Choc Chip, go modern with Salted Caramel or Honeycomb or opt for a seasonal special. They also do a range of fruity, non-dairy sorbets. You can find their tubs at Ludlow Farm Shop and look out for their pop-up at various summer events across Shropshire.

Berry’s Luxury Ice-Cream has 30 years of experience behind its award-winning ice cream. Based in the neighbouring county of Herefordshire, Berry’s supplies deli’s, farm shops and restaurants across Shropshire and Herefordshire with its artisan ice-cream and sorbets made from natural ingredients. If you want to try some interesting flavours, then this is the ice-cream for you. Their Gooseberry & Elderflower and Damson & Sloe Gin ice-cream have both won awards and they also bring out unusual seasonal specials. Hazelnut praline Coffee Liqueur ice-cream anyone? Stockists include Ludlow Farm Shop and Saxton’s Deli in Church Stretton.

During the Summer season, as well as stocking up on tubs of locally made ice-cream, Ludlow Farmshop also opens a dedicated ice-cream cabin. You’ll find it to the left of the main farmshop, handily next to the children’s play area! It’s only 10 minutes away from St Milburga Chapel and worth popping in as you drive past back to your holiday accommodation.

Historic Shrewsbury is well worth a visit whilst on your Shropshire holiday. But did you know that tucked down a quiet backstreet not far from the centre of town is an authentic gelateria? Gelatistry makes authentic, small batch gelato from it’s shop in St Julians Crescent, Shrewsbury. And as every Italian will tell you gelato is not ice-cream. Smoother, denser and soft-textured, if you’ve never tried gelato, you are in for a treat. With Italian flavours such as Stracciatella, Biscotto, Sicilian Lemon or Strawberry & Basil, you’ll find it difficult to choose. Visit: https://www.gelatistry.co.uk/ for opening times and location.

We hope that has given you some ideas of places to go when you are on holiday in Shropshire. I’m off to raid the freezer and see what ice-cream we have left.
