Yes that would be fine if we can accommodate you. If you are looking to stay in the Ludlow area for longer than a holiday break please drop us an email or give us a call to discuss. We would be delighted to assist if we can. Click here for our contact page. Please note that whilst we are happy to assist with stays for such reasons as house sales/purchases, temporary family visits, or short term work stays in an area (eg film crews), we cannot allow the chapel to be used for any business purposes. We do not accept bookings for more than 28 days.

Holiday Practicalities

We are afraid not. We know a lot of pet owners like to stay in cottages that accommodate dogs, but unfortunately St Milburga Chapel is not one of these – we are a pet free holiday cottage. We are completely pet free – no pets of any variety please. We welcome trained guide dogs and assistance dogs.

No. We have a strict non-smoking policy and smoking is not allowed inside the chapel or outside on the premises.

Yes you can. We have installed a lockable bike shed to the side of the chapel for guests to store their bikes when staying at the chapel. Contact us with any queries about this.

Bike shed

No, unfortunately we cannot allow pets at St Milburga Chapel – we are a pet free holiday cottage. We know it is very unlikely, but if anyone took a pet into the property we would need to charge a £250 fee for deep cleaning.

Yes we do. Its a type 2 tethered EV car charger, which is situated on the side of the chapel and accessible to any car parked on the driveway. The lead is 10 metres long. Simply plug your car in and leave it. We do not charge extra for using the EV car charger. Ludlow Sainsburys has brand new rapid charging points and there are chargers in some of the central Ludlow car parks as well. Ludlow Sainsburys is a 10 minute drive from St Milburga Chapel.

No there is no air conditioning installed at St Milburga Chapel. We have supplied two fans, which are available all year round for use by guests as required.

Yes. There is a gravelled area to the front of the chapel with a table and 4 chairs, plus a bench on which to enjoy a morning cuppa. There is a gas BBQ outside for you to use and the BBQ utensils are in the kitchen.

Yes we do. We have installed superfast broadband in 2022. The speed is usually somewhere around 55mbps and very consistent. The signal reaches all parts of the property and even outside. You can also connect via ethernet straight into the router if preferred.

Yes it does. We do not have a tumble dryer, although we have put a clothes airer in the chapel if you need to use it.

We have a brand new cast iron stove in the chapel and it is operated via a remote control, which has built in safety restrictions. Below is a video showing how to switch the fire on. It took us a few goes to get this to work when we first bought the stove!

Four. We have one double bed in the main bedroom (mezzanine) and two single beds in the second bedroom. There is no sofa bed downstairs. However, if you have a baby/toddler, the chapel does have space for an additional cot (we stayed in it ourselves when our 3 children were little!). Please note that the limit of 4 people staying in the chapel (excluding children under 2 sleeping in a cot) is strictly enforced. The chapel is not insured for more than 4 people and you will be asked to leave immediately without refund if more than 4 people are seen in the chapel by our local property manager.

Due to the historical nature of the chapel, it is not very accessible for wheelchairs or anyone with mobility problems. There is a step up into the building itself from the outside porch and the bedrooms are up a flight of stairs. Please give us a call if you have any questions about this. Yes, very much so. We have a travel cot, a stair gate (photo below) and a high chair at the property for anyone who needs them. The floors in the chapel are wooden, but the stairs are carpeted. There are three low windows in the back bedroom, but they are all locked and secure. We stayed in the chapel ourselves about 15 years ago when our three daughters were toddlers and babies, and it works well for a young family. Of course it is near to so many fun family things to do as well!

Stairgate at Str Milburga Chapel holiday cottage

Yes it is completely private. The chapel is a detached property with a patio area to the front and car parking to the side. The other boundary is a private lane leading to a few houses further along and our neighbour at Cherry Tree Cottage (the other side of the private lane) has a small shed to the rear of the chapel. At the front the chapel looks out onto the road (a country lane) and on the other side of the road there is a field, very often populated by cows. Sometimes on Google Maps there are a few older images which show a collection of workshops to the side of the chapel – these were removed in 2020 and instead a brand new eco-house called Hidden Hedges was built. Hidden Hedges is set back from the road and the driveway to the property is adjacent to our parking area.

No, unfortunately. Some providers appear to work better than others, but the nearest signal is usually about 5 minutes walk up the hill, where it is quite strong. We do have full wifi at the property, which means you can make wifi calls and use Whatsapp of course. There is also a landline for emergency calls only.

St Milburga Chapel is heated via cast iron radiators in each room. The radiators were installed in 2022. There is also a remote-controlled cast iron heating stove in the lounge, installed in 2023, which runs off gas. The bathroom has underfloor heating, which can be controlled via an app, as well as an electric towel rail. All electric and gas is included in the booking price. The chapel gets very toasty in the winter season and heats up in minutes.

The kitchen is extremely well equipped with cutlery, crockery, serving dishes, pans and oven trays. We also provide washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, cleaning cloths, scourer and hand soap. We also provide two tea towels per stay and a pair of oven gloves.

Not a lot unfortunately! There is a village bus, but the connections are not great. Ludlow, which is about 7 miles away, is extremely well connected by train, with direct trains to Shrewsbury, Hereford, Cardiff, Chester and Birmingham as well as services to London. Taxis from Ludlow station to the chapel are fairly easy to find. There are a lot of walks to do from the chapel and you can easily arrange supermarket deliveries to the property, so it is ideal if you are looking for a peaceful, rural weekend break by train.

We have been rated as 4 star accommodation by Visit England, which is a national assessment body for self-catering cottages & houses. This assessment is carried out following a visit to St Milburga Chapel on an annual basis, and we receive feedback afterwards. We have also been assessed as being Cyclist, Family and Walker friendly accommodation.

Please call us on the numbers in the visitor guide or on the website. We are always happy to help.

You can check in at any time after 3pm. The property has a key safe located just outside and we will send you the code shortly before your break. There is a light in the porch to help you see the keypad and the property manager lives just up the road and can help if any problems. Check out by 11am please – we know ourselves that it can be a bit of struggle to vacate any earlier, particularly if you have young children.

We have Freeview installed at the property which will give you access to the usual TV stations. The box also enables access to Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITVx, All4 and more. There is also a Hdmi cable connected to the TV available for your use, so you can connect up your appliances to the TV as required. The property also has a DVD/CD player, DAB radio and bluetooth smart speaker.

On the outskirts of Ludlow. If you head towards Ludlow you will drive past a very handy Sainsburys at Rocks Green by the roundabout. Just up the road from Sainsburys is a large Co-op as well. There is a big Tesco’s in the middle of Ludlow with a large pay and display car park (ticket refunded if you spend a small amount in store). Lots of people tend to park here to access the town as it is a short walk up the hill to the historic centre. Other supermarkets in the area include Aldi, which is next door to the Tesco in the middle of Ludlow. Craven Arms has an independent supermarket, Tuffins.

We love telling anyone interested about our charity work, something we have been doing for over 20 years as part of our commitment to being a socially responsible and ethical business.

Since 2005. There are residents of Stoke St Milborough who still remember when it was a fully functioning chapel in the 1970s, but it then became part of the C L Bodenham Agricultural Engineers and was used as the office to the company workshop to the side. Mr & Mrs Bodenham converted the chapel into holiday accommodation in 2005, a project which included a visit from Sarah Beeny who was filming a series for Channel 4. Sadly the chapel was not featured, although Mr Bodenham does still have a photo of himself with Sarah on his wall (he lives in Cherry Tree Cottage next door to the chapel). From 2005 to 2021 Mr & Mrs Bodenham ran the chapel before selling it to our company in 2022. We renovated it and installed the parking area, before reopening in early 2023.
