Inside the Chapel – Cosy Shropshire Hideaway
The chapel was newly renovated in 2022 and offers guests a comfortable stay in a peaceful rural setting, but with all the amenities of Ludlow just a short 10 minute drive by car. It is the ultimate luxury ‘tiny house’ in Shropshire – measuring just 7.3 metres long. It was built in 1842, and described at the time as being “a neat little chapel, twenty-four feet by eighteen, and about twelve feet from the floor to the ceiling.“
The front porch with bench for removing your muddy boots after a day’s hiking, leads into the front rooms. We have an open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen, perfect for spending family time together. There is a comfortable three seater sofa and chair, nestled around a brand new (2023) energy efficient (A) cast iron gas stove & hearth. There is a Samsung 43 inch HD Smart TV and Sound Bar, and there is access to our Netflix subscription. Although the Smart TV has access to all the usual apps (Freeview, Rakuten, Netflix, Amazon, Apple TV, Now TV etc.) we also have a Humax HD box connected with Freeview (150+ channels) . We have a CD/DVD player and John Lewis DAB radio. The DAB radio can be used as a smart speaker via Bluetooth. The chapel is equipped with games, books, maps (including a personalised ordnance survey map with the chapel in the middle), CDs and DVDs. We have superfast broadband with Wifi (code in the visitor guide).
The dining room area has a large oak dining table with seating for four people. The table was a vintage find, sourced from a chapel in North Wales and up-recycled. There is also a high chair if needed in the downstairs cupboard.
The compact kitchen is very well equipped. There is a dishwasher, microwave, full size fridge & freezer, two ovens, a grill and electric hob, a kettle and toaster.
The chapel has plenty of crockery, mugs, glasses and wine glasses, together with children’s utensils, dishes & plates. Having ourselves stayed in plenty of poorly equipped holiday cottages, we have stocked the kitchen with all the cooking utensils that we think you would need for your stay. Expect to find a garlic press, bottle opener (very important!), tin opener, soup ladle, spatula, pasta server, fish slice, wooden spoons, sharp knives, scissors, serving spoons, vegetable peeler, grater, scales, colander, measuring jug, serving dishes, Tupperware boxes and a sieve. Phew! There are wooden chopping boards, baking trays, a grill pan, stainless steel frying pan, saucepans and oven gloves. There is plenty of storage space for food and drink.
An integrated washing machine is also provided, along with an ironing board, iron, clothes horse and a Henry vacuum cleaner (a green one for any Henry enthusiasts!). We also provide washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, dishcloths and tea towels.
Carpeted stairs lead up to the bedrooms (stair gate available). The main bedroom is at the front of the chapel and has a double bed, bedside tables, open wardrobe and chest of drawers. The room has a mezzanine opening to the lounge and dining room below. For a good nights sleep, we have installed Velux blinds and you can opt to close the curtains to the top windows at the front of the chapel using the window pole adjuster supplied. Please note that as a result of the height of the ceiling in the master bedroom the double bed is quite low (although still extremely comfortable).
The second bedroom has two single beds, a cupboard with hanging rail and a chest of drawers. The low windows in this bedroom are kept locked for safety. There is a travel cot in the cupboard as needed. Please bring your own cot linen. Children may want to have a look under one of the beds as they may find some toys and books hidden under there!
The bathroom was freshly renovated in 2022 and has a sink, bathroom cabinet, shaving point, toilet, shower over the bath, bath and heated towel rail. There is underfloor heating as well to keep your feet nice and warm! All towels are provided for your stay.
Outside the chapel is a patio area, with table and chairs, with a view across the fields towards Titterstone Clee Hill. There is a large gas BBQ & utensils for outside entertaining. We have parking for 2 cars, plus a tethered 10m type 2 electric car charger on the side of the chapel, available exclusively to all guests at no extra charge. In 2023 we installed a bike shed to the rear of the driveway.
