Inside the Chapel – ‘a Cosy Shropshire Hideaway’
The chapel was newly renovated in 2022 and offers guests a comfortable stay in a peaceful rural setting, but with all the amenities of Ludlow just a short 10 minute drive by car. It is the original ‘tiny house’ in Shropshire – measuring just 7.3 metres long. It was built in 1842, and described at the time as being “a neat little chapel, twenty-four feet by eighteen, and about twelve feet from the floor to the ceiling.“
Lounge
The front porch with bench for removing your muddy boots after a day’s hiking, leads into the front rooms. We have an open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen, perfect for spending family time together. There is a comfortable three-seater sofa and chair, nestled around a cast-iron gas heating stove & hearth. We have a Samsung 43 inch HD Smart TV with Sound Bar, and you can use the St Milburga Chapel Netflix subscription as well as access the usual channels. We also provide a CD/DVD player and DAB radio. The DAB radio and sound bar can both be used as a smart speaker via Bluetooth. The chapel is equipped with games, books and maps, CDs and DVDs. We have superfast broadband with Wifi (code in the visitor guide).
Dining Area
The dining room area with oak dining table has seating for four people. The table was a vintage find, sourced from a chapel in North Wales and up-recycled. There is also a high chair if needed in the downstairs cupboard.
Kitchen
The compact kitchen is very well equipped. We have a dishwasher, microwave, full size fridge-freezer, oven, grill, electric hob, kettle and toaster.
The chapel has plenty of crockery and glasses, together with children’s crockery and utensils. Having ourselves stayed in plenty of poorly equipped holiday cottages, we have stocked the kitchen with all the cooking utensils and pots & pans that we think you would need for your stay. There is plenty of storage space for food and drink.
An integrated washing machine is also provided, along with laundry liquid, an ironing board, iron and airer. We also provide washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, dishcloths and tea towels.
Master Bedroom
Carpeted stairs lead up to the bedrooms (stair gate available). The main bedroom is at the front of the chapel and has a double bed, bedside tables, open wardrobe and chest of drawers. The room has a mezzanine opening to the lounge and dining room below. Please note that as a result of the height of the ceiling in the master bedroom the double bed is low to climb into (although still extremely comfortable).
Bedroom Two
The second bedroom has two single beds, a cupboard with hanging rail and a chest of drawers. There is a travel cot if needed. Please bring your own cot linen. Children may want to have a look under one of the beds as they may find some toys and books hidden under there!
Bathroom
The bathroom was freshly renovated in 2022 and has a sink, bathroom cabinet, shaving point, toilet, shower over the bath and heated towel rail. There is underfloor heating as well to keep your feet nice and warm! All towels are provided for your stay.
