Ludlow Fringe Festival 13th– 23rd June 2024

Most people will have heard of the Edinburgh Fringe but did you know that Ludlow also has a Fringe Festival? What is it? Where is it? When is it and what can you expect? Read on to find out more.

What is it?

Ludlow Fringe Festival was set up in 2013 as an independent Arts, Community and Culture festival. Its aim is to showcase an inclusive, dynamic and diverse range of events and activities in Ludlow. The event is supported by money from Arts Council England and its patron is the well-known comedian and presenter, Alistair McGowen.

Where is it?

In Ludlow of course! This year the event has been put on by Ludlow Assembly Rooms and that is where much of the programme of events will be happening. However, events will also be taking place at Ludlow Castle and in the Castle Square, Ludlow Brewery, Ludlow Methodist Church, Chang Thai Bar in the centre of town and St Leonard’s Churchyard.

When is it?

Traditionally the programme of events takes place across June and July. A slightly reduced programme is running for 2024 and this years main Fringe Festival takes place from 13th to 23rd June 2024.

What can I expect?

There is a huge array of events and activities with something for all ages and interests. From theatre, comedy, music, talks, tours and workshops, the programme is jam-packed. Highlights include: the outdoor theatre production of Romeo & Juliet in Ludlow Castle, Gaby Roslin in conversation with Alistair McGowan at the Assembly rooms and the ever-funny Tony Hawks in his one-act musical show. The event that caught my eye though was Jo Brand in conversation talking about her career- it promises to be a hilarious and fascinating evening.

But perhaps a Poetry Slam is more your thing or spotting some new talent at a Comedy Night. Perhaps you love the sound of a Spanish guitar or maybe you prefer a bit of Jazz or Folk music! Are you into Sea Shanties or do you want to bring the kids to watch an Indian Circus Show. There really is something for absolutely everyone.

Another major highlight is the Carnival. To coincide with the production of Romeo & Juliet, this year’s theme is “Love”. The carnival takes place on Saturday 15th June starting at 4 pm at Ludlow Brewery and finishing at Ludlow Castle. It’s colourful, creative, inclusive and spectacular with an amazing array of costumes and sounds – a treat not to be missed.
