Off-Road Quad Bike Safari with Severn Valley Quad Trekking

An off-road quad bike safari with Severn Valley Quad Trekking – recommended day out from St Milburga Chapel holiday home

Looking for something a bit different to do with older children over the summer in Shropshire? Wanting a high adrenaline adventure to excite teens whilst holidaying at St Milburga Chapel holiday accommodation? Fancy trying out an exhilarating activity whilst on holiday in Shropshire? Our family of 5 recently had fun on an off-road quad bike safari with Severn Valley Quad Trekking.

Severn Valley Quad Trekking is a family run business operated on local farmland a short, 10 min drive from St Milburga Chapel. They take a maximum of 5 riders per trek with a minimum age of 8 years, so this is a perfect activity for families with slightly older children. The company has a range of quad bikes to suit all ages with a mix of junior quad bikes and adult quad bikes and operate from the Easter holidays through until after October half-term.

It was a sunny, dry day when we arrived at the meeting point in a field at the top of the trek site where we were met by our 2 guides for the afternoon. After a warm welcome and some reassurance to calm the nerves, we were strapped into our helmets and goggles and shown to our quad bikes. We were shown the controls – very simple – and once we were all settled, we followed a guide a few times around the practice track to get the hang of handling the quad bikes. The rest of the family had been on quad bikes before but this was my first time. I won’t lie – it took me a few goes around the track before I got the hang of the steering and I went “off track” a few times around the bends. However, after a few mins we all graduated onto a slightly harder practice route and after a couple of turns around that track, we were ready for the main event.

Now came the fun bit as we followed our guide on a trek across the beautiful Shropshire countryside followed by the second guide holding up the rear. Biking in single file we were able to pick up speed going much faster than when we were on the practice field. Slowing down for the bumpy bits, we were safely led across varied terrain, crossing cow fields and heading into woodland for more challenging trekking through the trees. I was amazed how quickly I had become accustomed to handling the bike and was able to confidently negotiate my ways under and over branches and along muddy, narrow paths. My favourite bits was a steep, downhill section filled with water at the bottom that required a burst of acceleration to climb out the other side.

The whole trekking experience lasted for 60 mins after which we were led back up to the meeting point. After posing for some photos, we handed back the bikes and helmets and laughed at how muddy we were. Definitely an activity to dress for in old clothing!  I can honestly say that I loved every minute of the afternoon and definitely want to have another go on a quad bike at some point.  Our guides were friendly, reassuring and professional and at no point did I feel unsafe or out of my depth. For a fun, adrenaline filled activity, I have no hesitation about recommending Severn Valley Quad Trekking to our guests staying at St Milburga Chapel holiday accommodation.
