Pancake Day in Ludlow, Shropshire

In Ludlow, Shropshire and fancy some pancakes for breakfast on Shrove Tuesday?

Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day falls on Tuesday 4th March this year. I absolutely love pancakes, both the thicker style American pancakes as well as the thinner crepe style pancakes traditionally eaten in the UK on Shrove Tuesday.

I often make American style pancakes at a weekend for a family breakfast. The family love them with chocolate spread and banana. My favourite toppings though are blueberries, yoghurt and maple syrup. I only ever seem to make traditional thin pancakes on Shrove Tuesday though. What’s my topping of choice on Pancake Day? Lemon juice and sugar every time!

But if you don’t fancy getting the frying pan out this Shrove Tuesday or you are on holiday in Shropshire, where can you go in Ludlow to get your pancake fix? Here are some suggestions:

Ludlow Farmshop, Bromfield, Ludlow

Here you’ll find American style pancakes on their breakfast menu served 8 am until 12 pm. For those with a savoury taste you can have them with bacon and maple syrup. However, what about the wonderful sounding Banoffee Pancakes with caramelised banana, whipped cream and crushed Biscoff biscuits – yum!

Csons , The Mill on the Green, Ludlow

Breakfast is served from 9 am until 11.30 am at this lovely café with views across the River Linney towards Mortimer Forest. On the menu you’ll find American Pancakes with crème fraiche, local fruit, honey and praline and if you’re feeling adventurous you can add a couple of slices of bacon.

Kin Kitchen, Foley Street, Ludlow

On the breakfast menu at this family run café in the heart of Ludlow is their Pancake Stack with a choice of Nutella, banana, caramel and Greek yoghurt or summer berries with Greek yoghurt. Breakfast is served from 9 am until 12 pm.

The Old Bakehouse, Quality Street, Ludlow

Located in a pretty courtyard just off the Market Square, this independent café is open for breakfast from 9.30 am at weekends and 10 am during the week. Here you’ll be able to tuck into an American Pancake Stack with bacon and maple syrup.

Whether you are a traditionalist or fancy something a bit different, I hope this has given you a few ideas. Happy eating!
