River Severn Canoes provide a wide range of trips along the River Severn (and a canal trip for anyone a bit less confident around moving water or a bit younger!). We have been on one of their trips ourselves as a family and can recommend them to all our guests if you want to try something different whilst stopping at St Milburga Chapel. Bridgnorth, the starting point, is just 25 minutes drive from the chapel.

In our experience, having done canoe trips on the River Severn from Shrewsbury to Attingham, a trip down the river to Montford Bridge and Bridgnorth to Bewdley, is that the Bridgnorth to Bewdley is the most exciting and fun trip. Its 14 miles and River Severn Canoes reckon you can do it in 6 hours. We managed it in that time just about I think, and it really is an enjoyable paddle. Has everything – plenty of small rapids (nothing too scary), lots to look at, gentle paddling, pub stops, a steam train to bring you back if you can time it, plus beaches to pull up at and chill out! You can also do Bridgnorth to Arley (4hrs), Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade (2hrs) or Hampton Loade to Arley (2hrs). ‘The perfect way to enjoy the great outdoors.’
Best way of doing any of the routes is either to catch the Severn Valley Railway back, or alternatively park a car at each end of the river before you start. River Severn Canoes can help you with arranging return travel as well I understand.
You can also do a more gentle trip along the Kinver Canal if you don’t want to do any moving water or have young children with you.
