The Easter holidays are nearly here and, for families across the UK, that often means finding ways to keep children entertained until school starts again. It’s also a popular time of year for family holidays.
With rising living costs and ongoing uncertainty, many families may choose to holiday in the UK this year. In this article, we take a look at what’s on offer across Shropshire and the surrounding counties this Easter — whether you’re planning a family break near Ludlow or looking for ideas for the Easter holidays in Shropshire.
Ironbridge Gorge
Major changes have taken place over the past few months, with the National Trust taking over the care and management of the ten museums previously run by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust.
While details are still being finalised, the museums themselves remain closed for now. Current plans suggest that Blists Hill may reopen from mid-May 2026, with Enginuity following later in the summer, although there is no confirmed timeline for the remaining sites — so watch this space.
In the meantime, the town of Ironbridge is still well worth a visit. You can admire the famous Iron Bridge (managed by English Heritage and free to access) before exploring the town’s independent shops, tearooms and restaurants.
National Trust Easter Trails
The National Trust will be hosting themed Easter trails across many of their properties from 21 March to 12 April. Trails cost £3.50 (in addition to standard admission) and include a chocolate treat at the end.
Attingham Park, near Shrewsbury
Attingham is offering something a little different this year, with an Easter trail inspired by the nation’s love of gameshows. Not something you’d normally associate with a historic mansion, but it promises to be great fun — with a touch of nostalgia.
Berrington Hall, near Leominster

Berrington Hall is taking a more traditional approach, inviting visitors to step into the world of the Georgians. Children can try their hand at Georgian-inspired games — including slipper throwing — alongside the Easter trail.
Families with green-fingered children can also visit the potting shed, where children are encouraged to plant their own pumpkin or sunflower seed to take home. This activity is free, with all materials provided.
Dudmaston and Comer Woods, near Bridgnorth
For traditional Easter fun, Dudmaston Hall is hosting an Easter egg hunt through its orchard and gardens, with activities to complete along the way.
On Good Friday (3 April), nearby Comer Woods will host a Nature Makers event, encouraging children to get creative with nature-inspired crafts. This is a drop-in session, with a small charge for materials.
A similar event will take place in the orchard at Dudmaston Hall on 6 April, offering another chance to get creative.
Croft Castle, near Leominster

Croft Castle is celebrating spring with its Easter trail, inviting families to explore both the castle and its grounds with activities for all ages.
For more details, visit the National Trust website.
Ludlow Castle is a fantastic place for families to explore at any time of year. Over the Easter holidays (28 March to 12 April), it will also host an Easter egg hunt.
Ludlow Castle
Search the castle and grounds to find where the Easter Bunny has hidden colourful eggs. Once completed, children can collect a chocolate reward from the gift shop. The trail costs £3 in addition to standard admission.
Stokesay Castle, near Craven Arms

Managed by English Heritage, Stokesay Castle offers plenty to explore over the Easter holidays. Visitors can climb the North Tower, explore the castle interior and enjoy the surrounding gardens and moat walk.
An Easter trail will run from 28 March to 19 April, costing £2 in addition to admission, with a chocolate reward at the end.
Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, Craven Arms
The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre offers a varied programme of activities throughout the Easter holidays.
